Francoise Nielly

Françoise Nielly’s massive, colorful portraits are delicious to look at. Even more wonderful – and particularly infuriating to those of us who have timidly dabbled in painting – is to watch her create them. In a beautiful video posted on her site, she, in her confident, strong hand, wields her painting knife shaped like a miniature garden trowel, and makes painting look easy like cake frosting. She paints her vivid, passionate canvases — some as large as 78 x 25 inches (195 x 62 centimeters) -- from black-and-white photos, further proof of her unfailing ability to interpret light, shadow, hue and tone by applying brilliant colors and daring strokes.
Born in Marseille, brought up near Cannes and Saint-Tropez, and now living in Paris, Nielly is at home among bold contrast and dazzling light. To add to her likability, here is the list of her loves: Life, wide open spaces, sushi, blue lagoons, the Internet, humor, books, Paris, New York and Vancouver. - Tuija Seipell

NECKFACE at O.H.W.O.W

NECKFACE
Devil's Disciple
October 31, 2009

Neckface will turn Miami inside out for his premiere solo exhibition in the Magic City. This Halloween night, Neckface will deconstruct all 10,000 square feet of O.H.W.O.W. and build a world like no other. Featuring a large-scale haunted house installation, complete with Neckface's iconic imagery, the Devil’s Disciple exhibition is designed to frighten viewers as they enter the space.

The crux of the exhibition though will surely be Neckface's new work. A deviation from the norm, it is chock-full of his signature imagery interweaved with a personal dimension that is much more palpable in the paintings. After so many years of crafting a persona and building up walls around himself and his moniker, the reclusive Neckface has finally cracked open the door ever so slightly and let us into his world.

With the introduction of historical and pop culture references into the visual storytelling, the paintings have grown more complex and more intricate. This newer imagery is balanced by considered application of wit throughout the work in the signature Neckface hand style. In addition to the paintings, a series of metal mask sculptures will be on display. Reminiscent of African Woyo masks, Neckface reworks the sculptures with sharp edges and creates an object that is distinctly contemporary and unmistakably his.

There's no doubt that Devil’s Disciple will be a breakout exhibition for Neckface. The work created will surely be considered his finest to date and is anticipated to redefine him and endear him to a whole new legion of fans.

Rest In Peace Jose "Nasty Nes" Carrera

I originally met Jose while working on a mural together in Little Haiti in the summer of 2004. He had recently been released from prison after serving a 4 year bid for attempted murder. You wouldn't have guessed it because he was the nicest dude. He always had a smile on his face and was more than happy to give us younger dudes advise. He would tell us stories about the old school days and could not stop talking about his children who were the most important thing in his life and cared about more than anything in this world.
Not only was Jose a talented graffiti artist, he was also an incredible tattoo artist. Jose had done some work on my friend Adam and I was blown away by his color techniques and unique style. I tried to get in some work from him but due to schedule conflicts we were never able to link up, something that I will now regret for the rest of my life. In a year that seems to have had way too many deaths, none, not even the passing of Michael Jackson, seem as significant as this one. Jose "Nasty Nes" Carrera. MSG crew and Ocho Placas fam FOREVER.

Pantone Paint

Europe has been on the forefront of developing spray paint for the purposes of art as opposed to American companies who ignore the fact that 45% of its consumers use their product for Graffiti/Street Art. While the PANTONECANS have a decent design and concept, it's a little impractical.
The PANTONECANS come in CMYK or pantones, and traditionally these 4 colors were mixed to make and create every tone or color in the spectrum using ink and usually for purposes of print. Spray paint on the other hand, is a unique opaque medium that is designed to dry quickly and meant to cover. Even though there are ways to mix spray paint to create new colors, it is a very difficult and tedious procedure. Non-the-less, the PANTONECANS are still a dope idea however it's application is a bit ill-thought.

Futuristic George Jetson Sh*t

The Window Phone by Seunghan Song
This has to be one of the illest designs I have seen all year. The weather application is insane and adjusts your screen to portray accurate climate conditions in your area. I can't wait to get one of these in my hands!
